Off to New York Goes Minnesota Twins

Tuesday, October 06, 2009

Tonight the Minnesota Twins played the Detroit Tigers in the tiebreaker game to decide the American League Central Champion. In a come-from-behind game the Minnesota Twins won in 12 innings. This five game winning streak that Minnesota was on was exactly what was needed to give them a spot in the playoffs. However, now the Twins have to face the much more rested Yankees tomorrow. There were many intense moments of this game but one particular thing that may stick in the head of some of the Detroit Tigers for days to come is a miscall by the home plate umpire Randy Marsh. In the top of the 12th inning the bases were loaded with one out and Brandon Inge up at the plate. The first pitch he faced clearly hit his jersey, but rather than a base and run scored the umpire called it as an ordinary ball inhibiting a run to be scored. However, you cannot blame the ump too much on something like that. Plain and simply the Tigers were unable to capture a few golden opportunities to win the game. At the top of the 12 with one out and bases loaded the Tigers failed to score a single run.

Noteable Performances:
Joe Mauer: 2-4, 2BB, 2B
Magglio Ordonez: 2-5, 2R, 2RBI, HR
Miguel Cabrera: 2-5, BB, 2B, R, 2RBI, HR

Loser of the Game:
Gerald Laird: 0-6, GIDP, stuck out twice
