For people my generation who grew up with the Cookie Monster there has been a widespread belief that Sesame Street's Cookie Monster has recently become the Veggie Monster amid cries that childhood obesity is soaring. When a friend of mine mentioned that the Cookie Monster is no more, I said: That is ridiculous kids are going to eat cookies just because of the Cookie Monster? Sure, kids do eat cookies and will probably eat them regardless just like any junk food because well...they taste good with or without the Cookie Monster. Unfortunately, few young adults even bother to find out the truth. It did not take long for me to realize that this invention of the "Veggie Monster" is a myth. At the same time one of my most vivid memories of Cookie Monster was something known as the "Healthy Food Rap." I remember hearing this song before I even knew what a rap was. In fact, I recall asking my Dad once what rap was and the example he sited was the Cookie Monster's "Healthy Food Rap." Unfortunately, none of my friends knew what I was talking about and questioned the existence of such a rap. Nonetheless the rap does indeed exist and is quite clever at that.
Here is the brilliant old-school "Healthy Food" rap:
